CENTRE DE REFERENCE DU DIABETE ET DES MALADIES CARDIOVASCULAIRES
Access to a specialized, integrated medical care center is vital to the daily lives of people living
with chronic diseases such as diabetes, hypertension and/or cardiovascular disease. For nearly
30 years, the Haitian Diabetes and Cardiovascular Disease Foundation (FHADIMAC) has provided
lifesaving services to thousands of patients through clinical care, educational and preventive
programs, and access to prescription medicine at discounted prices. Many of these patients
cannot afford the cost of long-term treatment and would have likely died without FHADIMAC’s
assistance. In the case of severe debilitating complications, only those who can afford to travel to
a foreign country can benefit from treatment in a modern center.
FHADIMAC has long envisioned constructing a modern national medical center that
integrates the following specialized services:
• diabetes, hypertension, cardiovascular disease and dyslipidemia evaluation
• renal, neurological and cardiovascular clinic
• foot clinic
• wellness clinic for nutritional therapy
• access to discounted prescription medicine and self-monitoring diabetes and
hypertension equipment
• training and educational sessions
• ophthalmology clinic with an initial and annual check-ups for all diabetics and
hypertensives
• specialized clinic for diabetic children and adolescents which would also provide
psychological support to them and their parents
• mobile outpatient care
As a non-profit foundation with insufficient financial resources for such an ambitious project,
FHADIMAC is appealing to the generous support of individuals and private sector organizations
dedicated to its cause and to the health of the Haitian population. The construction of the National
Diabetes and Cardiovascular Disease Center will remain a dream without this support and the
pressing medical needs of millions of Haitians will thus go unmet.
