Earthquake in Haïti
Shortly before 5h PM on January 12, 2010, an earthquake of magnitude of 7.3 destroyed the capital city of Haiti: Port-au-Prince, a town of 3.000,000 inhabitants.
One week later, the death toll is over 200,000 deaths with more than 250,000 wounded and over 1,500.000 homeless. There are still people trapped under the collapsed buildings.
Many diabetic associations around the world have expressed their sympathies and offered their help to the Fondation Haïtienne de Diabète et de Maladies Cardio-Vasculaires “FHADIMAC”. The executive board of International Diabetes Federation (IDF) and Insulin for life (IFL) are very active in that mobilisation.
FHADIMAC has offered its services to all persons affected with Diabetes and Hypertension in the Haitian community. Our insulin stock cannot respond to the demands of the sicks. Dr Nancy Charles Larco has brought from the USA on January 17 some rapid acting insulin and a few long acting vials given by IDF/USA.
Over a week after the tragedy, the insulin promised by several organizations has not yet reached Haiti.
Our needs are great. Most of the diabetic population lost everything: medicines, houses and all belongings.
Only a generous, well planified and well organized help can prevent a health catastrophe among the Haitian community.
For the time being please address your donations to: Trust fund for Haiti on www.idf.org
